I.
PURPOSE
The Strategic Research Program in Bolivia (PIEB), which has been
operatingsince 1995, has the following purpose:To achieve greater
knowledge of the processes of change in relevantaspectsof the national
and regional reality from a multidisciplinary approach,thereby enabling
reflection to be taken forward about that reality andproposals to be
generated for policies that would contribute to greatersocial
integration and the strengthening of democracy.
II.
OBJECTIVES
In order to achieve this purpose, PIEB has set itself three objectives:

To promote
the undertaking of multidisciplinary research projects whichhave
social relevance and excellence in their formulation andexecution,
on the one hand, and on the other contribute to the understanding of
theprocesses of change of national and regional scope,
therebycontributing todecision-making by social actors, including
the state.

To support
the training and/or updating of knowledge of
socialscienceresearchers and professionals. PIEB aims to create
conditions fortrainingin the acquisition of knowledge and the use of
theoretical frameworks,aswell as in methodological and technical
skills for research.

To
strengthen research institutions, mainly by updating
theirdocumentarymaterial in the different social science
disciplines. PIEB willsupportdocumentation units directly in order
to optimize the specialisedservicesthey offer to researchers,
professionals and university lecturers
III.
INSTITUTIONAL
POLICIES
PIEB has been carrying out its activities in the framework of
certainpolicyemphases.

The concepts
of "strategic importance and social relevance" forthe
selection of research projects

Promotion of
regional equity
-
Strengthening
of local resources with courses on the formulationofresearch
projects
-
Institutional
strengthening: libraries, documentation centres and thetransfer of
equipment.
